Fax:(+8610)6352-4798 E-mail: jiushuang@yahoo.com The 23rd Annual International EOS/ESD Symposium sponsored by the ESD Association in cooperation with the IEEE Technically co-sponsored by the Electron Device Society was holden from Sep.8-14, 2001 at Oregon Convention Center in the ‘Rose City’ Portland, Oregon USA.
The ESD Association was founded in1982 dedicated to advancing the theory and practice of electrostatic discharge (ESD) avoidance. From fewer than 100 members the Association has grown to more than 2,000 members throughout the world. The 23rd meeting is the largest scale in the history. More than 600 members from over 30 countries such as America, Japan, Canada, Russia, Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Finland, Holand, Switzerland, Belgium, Philippine, Israel, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea and China (Taiwan and Hong Kong). Parts of the member are ascent due to the closing of the airport because the ‘9.11’terror event, but there was little influence on the meeting.
There were two large meetings and 11 parallel sessions presenting 62 papers in this symposium. Every author must post his paper on 18 pager board so the audiences may discuss the interested problems after the presentation. There were 8 workshops and 22 Tutorials besides the technical program and two special TPL and RF sessions. I presented my paper on the study of the electromagnetic field radiated from ESD and answered several questions. Many souvenir pictures with the similar interest members were taken after I presented my paper(Fig. 5~10).
Over 120 leading companies exhibited their products and services covering the broad spectrum of static protection, control, testing, and analysis, as well as prominent trade publications(Fig.11~12).
Dr.Huang also visited the most famous Harvard University and the largest private university Boston University. He also met Prof. Mark Horenstein, chairman of the ESA (Electrostatic Society of America). They discussed many similar interest topics on applied electrostatics and Prof. Mark Horenstein invited Dr.Huang to attend the 2002’ESA meeting and give he free registration and accommodation. Dr.Huang received his invitation with great pleasure. (Fig.13).
With great acknowledgement to the NSFC (National Science Foundation of China) to support me attending this meeting.
